What is the best rock/hard rock/metal album of all time?
Thud! asked:
This is opinion, obviously.
But I just felt like finding out what some other people thought.
Aerosmith’s “Rocks”, always been one of my favs.
“Vulgar Display Of Power” is definitely Pantera’s crowning achievement.
“Let It Bleed” by the Stones has Gimme Shelter, my favorite song by them.
And I think everyone knows that Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin started the heavy metal genres, Black Knight.
And again, Guns ‘N Roses “Appetite for Destruction” is incomparable.

Well there are a lot of bands I could name that have had big hits like Kiss, Ozzy, Metallica, God Smack, Smashing Pumpkins, Guns and Roses, Judas Priest, I guess it is a matter of taste for each person, as far as a single album I am not sure many bands have had albums go to number1!

Wow, trying to narrow it down to ONE album … geez.
I’ve got to go with Aerosmith “Rocks” from 1975 or 76. This was their last and best album before the drugs really started kicking in. They didn’t really make another good album until “Permanent Vacation,” after they got clean and sober.
.
metallica, anything by them was superceeded by their previous.
PanterA – VULGAR DISPLAY OF POWER
nothing beats that till now!
I would say Appetite for Destruction, it is the fourth best selling debut album of all times and combined heavy metal, punk rock, and blues-rock. It had some amazing songs Welcome to the Jungle, Paradise City, Nightrain, Sweet Child o’ Mine. It is a masterpiece plain and simple.
How can I pick just one?!

In my humble opinion, one thing makes one certain album stand out, and that one thing is timing.
One album was released when nobody was even thinking of the types of songs that were on it. It was shunned and even occasionally banned in places because of the controversial nature of some of the songs and lyrics on it.
Of course, it was only partially as controversial as the artists who released it, but I believe it is the best and most innovative rock album of all time.
That album is “The Beatles” — popularly known as “The White Album.”
RUST IN PEACE–MEGADETH. PAINKILLER–JUDAS PRIEST. END OF STORY.
