Understanding The Ill Effects Of Movie Downloads
Everybody knows that movie downloads are illegal, and yet very few people seem to care. They are easy to find and use, and often you don’t feel as though you’re doing anything wrong. Because there’s so little involved, whether you’re downloading for a party or to entertain yourself late at night, it’s easy to excuse this sort of behavior for yourself.
Don’t panic and think you’re doing anything illegal just because you watch videos on YouTube. This is a far different process, because the owners of the videos post them up willingly for you to watch.
However, major Hollywood films and other movies are owned by the people that make them, and the people who post them online for your use are stealing them from the owners.
Many people make excuses that watching illegally downloaded movies isn’t harming anyone. Sometimes they even convince themselves that while the downloaders might get in trouble, they are safe themselves. However, this is a dangerously incorrect way to think. The Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) seriously condemns this practice and tags movie downloaders as “a movie thief whose crimes carry serious legal consequences.”
Again, these movies are stolen goods. A lot of people put hard work into making them, and by illegally getting your hands on these films, you’re taking something away from them. You know you wouldn’t walk up to somebody who was offering stolen goods in the real world, and so you shouldn’t in the virtual world, either. However tempting it might be, you must hold off for your own sake.
If all the people who did illegal downloading were caught, prisons would be filled with them and the amount of fines being paid by others would add to a huge amount of money.
However, these people don’t always get caught. In fact, the vast majority never have to worry about a thing, which is why so many people continue to download no matter how horrible the stories of those few unlucky individuals who were found out might be to hear.
The fact is, many people just never consider those lowly employees in the movie industry when they download movies. All they know is that they’re getting something they want and that they have very little chance of being discovered doing it. This should be considered justification for this behavior, but unfortunately, in too many cases, it is acceptable.
You really need to take a look at the morality of what you’re doing. While it’s easy to ignore that somebody is directly affected by everyone who downloads a movie as opposed to buying it, this doesn’t change the fact that it is true.
Put yourself in the shoes of somebody watching their personal, hard-earned profits slip away because of people downloading their movie without paying for it. You wouldn’t want this done to you, so you shouldn’t do it to anybody else.
There are all sorts of people involved in the movie industry. Some of them make a lot of money, but many of them don’t. It’s easy not to feel bad about high-paid actors losing money, but what about the extras and other workers? Tell everybody you know to stop downloading movies illegally. They may not like the idea, but in the end, they’ll feel better about themselves.
