How to Learn the Guitar – Are Boring Practices All There is to it?

So you wonder how to learn the guitar. You want to be a guitarist to play to your friends, at your church or maybe to become a real celebrity. And you ask around how to learn the guitar.

Most of the time people will just tell you that you need to go and find a guitar tutor and do all he says to realize your dreams of being a guitarist. In the end, doesn’t everybody learn the guitar this way?

Yeah but there are some catches here. As you start your lessons, you will see that some aspects of the private guitar lessons were actually different than you first imagined:

1 – What you will learn and how you will progress will depend heavily on the playing and teaching skills of your guitar instructor!

2- When learning the guitar as a beginner, you’ll tend to be shy playing with people around (and that’s perfectly normal), so your lessons will sometimes suffer from this fact.

3- If you’re not on Fortune 500, you probably won’t have too much money to spend on guitar lessons and hence will try to make do with an hour a week or maybe less. This is simply not enough as too many factors can interfere with and actually render a week’s lessons completely useless like being tired after a hard day at work or school and therefore not clearly understanding what you’ve just been shown.

4- Private guitar instructors usually tell you that you’ll have to be patient to see any real progress. Translation: around five to six months of lessons and at least a thousand dollars in tuition fees.

You will normally start to learn with a desire to play songs (and sing along if you can) so that your friends and loved ones see how talented you are. Unfortunately, what you will learn in the first four to six lessons will be just the basics like scales and notes that won’t serve the purpose at all.

And worst of all, in the beginning you’ll have a burning desire to learn and play the guitar, perhaps to learn some songs that you can sing to your loved one, or maybe to play a gospel at your church. But as soon as you delve into the endless jungle of practices and drills, you’ll start to realize that the initial excitement is somehow getting lost. And you start to ask yourself: “oh well, is this all there is to it?”

So, is this all there is to it? Isn’t there a better answer to your initial question: “how to learn the guitar?” Actually there is one simple and very effective answer. An answer that will boost your learning speed, allow you to learn much more by spending less money and time, and will make learning so much fun that you will crave for more. And so will your family and friends.
