Express Yourself With A Vintage Rock T-Shirt

The music industry is cyclic, meaning what was outdated is back in fashion once more. Different things can trigger the revival of music genres, and music fans love to show off their reverence for their favorite sound by digging out the t-shirts they used to wear, depicting their top groups.

Initially it appeared that hip hop would remain the favorite genre for the coming generations; yet beneath the rhymes and beats was the sound of vintage groups, which hip hop stylists sampled and integrated. Young folks hearing hip hop music were for a long while clueless that they were really hearing riffs by Aerosmith or samples of Journey tunes. That is, until the launch of video games like Guitar Hero.

Guitar Hero, Rock Band, and many other interactive music video games use the vintage music of classic rock as their soundtrack. So now, all of a sudden, kids could name all those samples they had heard. Suddenly, they were given exposure to a music that was completely new to them – classic rock. They embraced it instantly.

It was not long before the video game companies started offering more songs for kids to buy and add to their Guitar Hero catalog and, for the most part, these were classic rock songs. The parents saw this and started breaking out their vintage rock t-shirts to wear because their kids now found classic rock to be appealing just like the parents did when they were younger. The kids saw the parents wearing vintage rock t-shirts, they saw the characters on the Guitar Hero video game wearing them, and they decided they wanted them to.

Generally as a group launches a new album release, their t-shirts begin selling, along with the back catalog of their songs. Picture taking this principle and multiplying it by all the classic rock groups out there, and you can see the upswing in sales of vintage rock t-shirts. With the launch of these video games it was as if all the guitar heavy classic rock had reemerged, and all at once t-shirts and CDs were selling like hotcakes.

It can be said that when the younger generation starts rediscovering portions of their parents’ past then some of the things that the parents held dear start to make a comeback. Guitar Hero has effectively brought back classic rock and now kids are wearing vintage rock t-shirts of bands that existed 20 or 30 years ago. The kids are buying the music but they are also rediscovering vinyl records and now vinyl records are making a comeback as well.

Who could have forecast that the identical thing parents griped about for years is the means of bringing their memories of youth to their own children. For a long time parents believed that video games were destroying their kid’s generation, but with video games revitalizing interest in classic rock and vintage rock t-shirts, many are reconsidering this opinion.

While it is doubtful that hip hop will go away completely, it’s remarkable to see the very kids that were sporting DMX t-shirts today putting on vintage rock t-shirts while they play classic rock on their music players. Games such as Guitar Hero are a quintessential example of how one generation’s idols can reemerge with the cultural vehicles of the next generation. It’s difficult to guess how classic rock will become familiar to the next generations, however presumably someone will discover how to re-introduce vintage rock t-shirts yet again.
