Don’t Rush Your Wedding Itinerary

This day and age there are a lot of variations with wedding itineraries. The variations that exist, are due to the differences in a traditional and a modern wedding itinerary. One of the best ways to keep your guests entertained, is to have a spaced out itinerary. What is a spaced out itinerary? A spaced out itinerary is an order of events that has some open dancing (for breaks) in-between each of your events. This makes sure that your guests are entertained and aren’t feeling rushed. There are some traditional Wedding professionals who might disagree with this itinerary, but there are some key factors that will explain why this truly is the best way to coordinate a Wedding itinerary.

An example of an itinerary that is rushed, would be to walk into the reception area and go into a first dance, a toast, dinner, cake cutting and then the special event dances in a back to back sort of fashion. This basically tells your guests that after about an hour in, they have seen everything there is to see and that they can go home early. This is an easy thing to fix by simply spacing out the events with some open dancing so don’t fear. If you have hired a professional DJ that isn’t too experienced with running an itinerary you can easily coordinate one for them in this fashion to ensure the overall success of your wedding reception.

Remember, that a wedding reception that doesnt have your guests stay and enjoy themselves is essentially an expensive dinner party. If you want a successful wedding reception it is absolutely imperative that you base your order of events around entertainment. The best way to do this is to take control over the dance floor. If you have an event such as the first dance, dont go right into cake cutting or the father/daughter dance. This is an example of a rushed itinerary. If you space the events out with some open dancing for your guests, then they will be involved in the reception and not spending even more time observing. If you get them up off your feet, then they will be more entertained and will stay and enjoy themselves longer. When the DJ announces the next event, they leave the dance floor because they were asked too, not because they got bored.

The rest of the night and itinerary can follow this same format. Place an event such as the cake cutting after the first dance and space it out with some open dancing. Then after a few more songs to listen to while the guests enjoy their cake, you can move into the father/daughter dance. Then you can move into some open dancing and go into the honeymoon dance, followed by more open dancing and then you can move right into the Bouquet and Garter Toss. This open dancing cushion is the key to a successful itinerary based around entertainment, because it allows your guests to be involved and entertained in the order of events, rather than just observing for most of the night.

Remember that the key to having a successful wedding reception is to entertain your guests. Keeping them at your reception isn’t always a difficult task if you have spent proper time planning you wedding and itinerary. While some say it’s the entertainment that makes or breaks the wedding, it’s more the itinerary that can truly affect the outcome of your wedding.
