Do You Sing In A Live Band? Use These 3 Easy And Fun Tips To Be A Better Singer
If you play in a live band, you should also be singing. It doesn’t matter if you’re the lead singer or just the guitar player who sings the occasional backup vocal, you should always be working on your singing. Here are three fun and easy ways to improve your intonation, timing and vocal range.
Spending a lot of time singing is the very best way to improve your singing ability. You’ll definitely want to be singing along with whatever songs you’re trying to learn to play in your live band. It’s very important that you have all those songs loaded on your iPod or a CD so you can pull them out and sing along with them at any time.
You should always be on the lookout for convenient times to practice your singing. One of the best places I’ve found for practicing is while driving to and from my job. You can easily focus on your driving while you sing and there are very few distractions if you keep your cell phone turned off.
Playing any of the current crop of new music based video games is an excellent way to practice your singing. One of the very best is “Rock Band” the video game. You can download new songs from the vast Rock Band library to keep pushing yourself to be a better singer.
The way Rock Band challenges you to sing well is by scoring you on how well you sing in tune and on the beat. To get a good score you have to sing very well. If you pick some songs that challenge you, you can really improve your vocal range as well.
The other singing video game Id like to talk about is a series called SingStar. SingStar is very similar to Rock Band in how it tracks your vocal pitch and timing. It seems to have better tracking so its actually harder than Rock Band to get perfect scores.
SingStar, like Rock Band, has both rhythm and pitch tracking which you are scored on. SingStar also has some additional play modes for multi-player gaming. You can either compete against other players or sing harmony duets. Playing the harmony duet mode can really improve your ability to harmonize with another singer.
I highly recommend using both the “Rock Band” and “Singstar” video games to improve your pitch, rhythm and even your stamina. When you’re playing them and having fun it doesn’t even feel like you’re practicing. When you get up onstage with your live band, you’ll definitely be able to see an improvement in your singing from playing these games.
