Dinner Rush: A tumultuous day in the life of a recently fashionable N.Y.C. restaraunt. Owner Aiello is considering of giving up his bookie job, his megastar cook is requesting part ownership of the restaurant, and then 2 mobsters materialized to pay an unfriendly visit, etc. Flavorful film has the ring of reality inside the resaraunt, and outside it is is brimming with life. Rebel: Tiresome, justifiably vague time tablet characterizing Stallone, pre-stardom, as a disassociated political extremist (a fascinating balance to Rambo). Cast includes Antony Page, Sylvester E. Stallone, Rebecca Dirties, and Henry G. Sanders. (112 minutes, 1974)
Cherish: Unconventional tale of a black sheep who’s victimized by a stalker and then engaged in a mishap that lands her in prison however her “jail” is a condo, with an electric gadget shackled to her ankle limiting her movement. In time, the deputy who controls the instrument gets to be her only buddy. Crisp, unique thriller set in San Francisco. Cast includes Robin Tunney, Tim Blake Nelson, Nora Dunn, Brad Seek, Lindsay Crouse, Liz Phair, and Jason Priestley. (102 minutes, 2002)
The Painted Veil: In 1925 London, a socially backward bacteriologist hastily solicits an appealing lady to wed him, and she concurs. While he sees that she’s been cheating, he forces her to go along with him to a remote outpost in China where there’s been an eruption of cholera. Albeit meant as punishment, this experience steadily changes and deepens their relation. Cast includes Naomi Watts, Edward Norton, Liev Schreiber, and Toby Jones. (125 minutes, 2006)
Lantana: Moving, adult tale of relations obstructed by monotony, routine, and absence of articulation. LaPaglia plays a cop, whose matrimony has stagnated, leading him to have an affair. In the mean time, he examines the disappearance of a lady whose own matrimony is in danger. The film is beautifully nuanced at every turn. Cast includes Anthony LaLaglia, Geoffrey Hurry, Barbara Hershey, Kerry Armstrong, Rachael Blake, Vince Colosimo, Daniela Farinacci, and Peter Phelps. (121 minutes, 2001)
Day of Wrath: Remarkably well put together drama in regards to an old lady implicated of being a sorcerer and the hex that she sets on the minister who is accountable for her flaming. Cast includes Thorkild Roose, Lisbeth Movin, Sigrid Neiiendam, Preben Lerdorff, and Anna Svierker. (100 minutes, 194)
The Black Orchid: Concocted soaper of bumbling businessman (Quinn) courting mafia widow (Loren) and the complication of persuading their youngsters that matrimony can make all their lives more superior. Cast includes Sophia Loren, Anthony Quinn, Ina Balin, Jimmie Baird, (Peter) Mark Richman, Naotni Stevens, and Frank Puglia. (1959 minutes, 96)
S.o.B.: An inventor hatches a plan to turn his latest turkey into a hit: juice it up with pmlography and have his spouse-megastar (Andrews) plain her breasts. A glib satire on contemporary Movieland tosses in everything from black humor to dry, with wildly choppy outcomes. This was Holden’s last film. Cast includes Julie Andrews, William Holden, Richard Mulligan, Robert Preston, Robert Vaughn, Loretta Swit, Larry Hagman, Marisa Berenson, Robert Webber, Stuart Margolin, Craig Stevens, Shelley Winters, Rosanna Arquette, and Jennifer Edwards. Mrs. Dalloway: Redgrave is glowing as the spouse of a British M.P., who on the night of a soiree, thinks back to her youth when she selected between a safe, secure life and a more challenging presence with a gentleman who genuinely loved her. McElhone is a phenomenal match for Redgrave in the flashback scenes. Cast includes Vanessa Redgrave, Natascha McElhone, Rupert Graves, Michael Kitcben, Alan Cox, Lena Headey, Amelia Bulhnore, Sarah Badel, Oliver Ford Davies, Katie Carr, John Sitting, Robert Hardy, Margaret Tyzack, and Phyllis Calvert. (97 minutes, 1998)
