Are You A Musician Looking To Start A Live Band?

Are you a guitar player, keyboard player, bass player, drummer or singer? If you are, then I’m sure you’ve thought about the possibility of playing in a live band. Playing in a live band is the next logical step to take after you’ve learned how to play your instrument.

How can you start or find a live band of your very own? It’s as easy as contacting other musicians who also want to join a live band of their own. There are plenty of great musicians out there who would love to play in a live band. You only need to do a little work to find them.

How do you find other musicians interested in playing in a live band? The best place to look is at your local music store. Most music stores have a bulletin board where they allow musicians to put up free ads for the purpose of finding other musicians to play with.

Another important thing to do is to ask the music store for a list of music teachers who teach students to play on instruments you need to have in your band. The music teachers are a great resource for contacting students who are ready and want to play in a live band. You can build a good list of potential band members this way.

Once you have a list of musicians to contact it’s time to start making phone calls. Make sure you’re clear about the type of music you want to play. It’s a good idea to have a list of songs you want to learn so you can make sure the musicians you contact are interested in playing the same music as you.

The next thing to do to start your live band is to get together with the other musicians and try making some music together. At the start, you only want to get together with one or two people at a time. You’ll want to make sure the other musicians know some of the same songs as you. When you get together, just try playing through the songs you all know. It should be easy to tell if you will be able to make music together or not. If you’re not sure how many musicians you need, read my article about the typical live band lineup.

When you finally get a group of musicians that can play a complete song from start to finish you’ll have the foundation of your live band. It’s very important to set some easy goals right from the start. An excellent goal to have is learning 2 new songs before you get together to practice again. Then at your next band practice, you can work on playing all the songs you know from start to finish.

You will have to deal with some challenging problems to keep your band functioning and to become successful. The thing to never forget is to have a common goal and keep working together to reach it. Make a goal of learning at least one new song every week. Having common goals will keep you focused and each time your reach your goal, your band will get better!
