A Succinct List Of Some Amusing Car Films
American’s love cars and movies, so what could be better than a great car picture? Here is a short list of some notable car films from the past, sorry if we missed your favorite.
A memorable from the year 1968- Bullitt. Featuring Steve McQueen and Jacqueline Bisset, directed by Peter Yates. This film features two cool cars, a 390 GT Mustang and a Dodge Charger 440 Magnum and one of the greatest car chases in movie history in a police force/action adventure movie.
The real McCoy and some say the best one, from 1974 – Gone in 60 Seconds. Featuring “Eleanor” a yellow 1973 Ford Mustang and a different one of the greatest car chases in a 40-minute closing moments to the film. Crash course on the nitty-gritty of stealing cars. But don’t overlook the remake.
From 2000- Gone in 60 Seconds – starring Nicolas Cage and Angelina Jolie. Directed by Dominic Sena. Producer: Jerry Bruckheimer. With an famous group of actors and crew this remake is not about the talents of the famous players and crew but rather it is about the cars, fast cars, stolen cars, wrecked cars. This one is only about the cars.
From 1981 – The Cannonball Run and from 1984 – The Cannonball Run 2 – Prohibited street races across the nation with a wild group of actors of odd characters that are willing to do everything to win.
From 1983 – Christine- An exercise in horror starring a cool but mad 1957 Plymouth Fury. The tale is from Stephen King, can’t go amiss there.
And everyone’s all-time favorite from 1973- American Graffiti. Takes us all back to the summer of 62. Features an all-star cast before they became stars. Ron Howard, Harrison Ford, Richard Dreyfuss, Cindy Williams and Mackenzie Phillips.
And there you have a succinct list of some of the best “car” films. Of course, there is more because we will always have a love affair with our cars.
