Straight Time: Hoffman knocks heads with greasy parole officer Walsh following his discharge from penitentiary and starts a downward skid. An immersing if not specifically differentiated melodrama that gets a genuine shot in the arm from tremendous acting by the supporting cast. Cast includes Dustin Hoffman, Theresa Russell, Harry Dean Stanton, Gary Busey, Emmet Walsh, and Rita Taggart. (114 minutes, 1978)
The Ploughman’s Lunch: Difficult, skeptical condemnation of British behaviors, ethics and affairs of state, focusing on the exercises of completely selfish journalist (Pryce) and others throughout the Falklands battle. The film is relatively perceptive, within the restraints of its outlook. Cast includes Jonathan Pryce, Tim Curry, Rosemary Harris, Blunt Finlay, and Charlie Dore. (100 minutes, 1983)
House on Haunted Hill: Zillionaire Cost offers group of individuals $100,000 each if they’ll survive a night in spooky old mansion with a haunted history. Cast includes Vincent Cost, Carol Ohmart, Richard Long, Alan Marshal, Elisha Chef, Carolyn Craig, and Leona Anderson. (75 minutes, 1958)
Infinity: Sugary however choppy film based on the life of Richard Feynman, whose relation with Arline Arquette in pre-WW2. N.Y.C. takes a fateful turn when he is enlisted to work on the Manhattan Project. The scientist won the Nobel Prize in 1965. Cast includes Matthew Broderick, Patricia Arquette, Peter Riegert, Dori Brenner, and James LeGros. (117 minutes, 1996)
Underworld: Evolution: The war between the Werewolves and the Vampires rage on. Now we look back to the beginning, and see how the feud between the two races began. A confrontation that started way in the past is about to be brought into the present day to conclude here.
Jerry Maguire: Jerry is an agent for a top Sports Management group. When he is fired, he expects his client to come along with him as he sets out on his own. All of a sudden Jerry realizes that he has no true friends in this cutthroat, dog eat dog, business. Down to one client and one assistant, Jerry fights to build himself a business.
Nuts: Gripping drama in regards to a belligerent female designated an appointed attorney who should fight for her right to stand trial for manslaughter, while both the state and her own parents demand that she’s not in her right mind. Cast includes Barbra Streisand, Richard Dreyfuss, Maureen Stapleton, Eli Wallach, Robert Webber, and Hayley Taylor Block. (116 minutes, 1987)
Nomad: On the desolate steps of 18th-century Kazakhstan, in a battle for freedom, mystic combatant Oraz saves a child descended from Genghis Khan who is destined to join the country as “Mansur”. Historical fable has nasty sabers on horseback fights and excellent production layout (locals being used as add-ons) however trudging storytelling. Cast includes Kuno Becker, Jay Hernandez, Jason Scott Lee, and Mark Dacascos. (110 minutes, 2005)
